Project Overview
A custom website was created for the Timber Framing Event, a four-day immersive retreat led by master craftsman Mike Yaker, also known as Chief Bad Axe. The event invites participants to engage their bodies, expand their minds, and learn traditional timber framing using hand tools such as saws, chisels, mallets, drills, and planes.
The website highlights the full scope of the retreat: event dates and duration, location near DeForest, WI, instructor background, craft focus, schedule, and the transformative purpose behind the experience. It communicates both the practical skills attendees will gain and the deeper value of slowing down, reconnecting with nature, and building with focus and intention.
Challenges We Faced:
The main challenge was to convey the immersive, hands-on, and reflective nature of the retreat in a digital format. The experience is tactile and experiential participants work with timber by hand, learn traditional joinery, and reconnect with nature so the site needed to feel grounded, engaging, and intentional.
The Results:
The final website delivers an engaging, informative, and inspiring online presence for the retreat. Registration inquiries increased significantly from woodworkers, creatives, and individuals seeking hands-on experiences. The site highlights the retreat’s purpose, Mike Yaker’s expertise, and the unique value of traditional timber framing.
With clear navigation, well-structured content, and compelling visuals, the website now serves as both an informational hub and an emotional invitation, helping participants feel connected to the event before they arrive. The URL (timberframing-event) reinforces the identity of the retreat and provides a simple, memorable way to access all event information.
